Shutting Down Anti-Blackness and Fighting for Justice

BLM Sacramento is fighting to “demolish the system that is killing us, criminalizing us, miseducating us, and oppressing us.” Anything that supports these systems will get shut down. Anything that distracts us from this fight will get called out.

Anti-black racism is thick in Sacramento. Whether it’s the SN&R running a cover story on Joseph Mann’s murderer or Solfire Yoga appropriating Black culture, anti-blackness will get SHUT DOWN. In. Its. Face.

As BLM member Sarah Howell said at the last BLM Open Meeting, “we are tearing down with one hand, and building with the other.” This week, BLM Sacramento shut down SN&R’s Annual Sammies for their anti-blackness. Instead, we created an event to celebrate Black healing and joy. Join us for the Anti-Sammies on Thursday, March 15th at 7pm to lift Black art in all its form.

Nothing will get in our way of fighting for Black liberation.

We will not stop until we get Black liberation. We will not be distracted. We will not forget the people who have died at the hands of the system and those who murdered them:

John Tennis and Randy Lozoya with Sacramento Police Department who murdered Joseph Mann. #SayHisName #JosephMann

Anthony Figueroa with Sacramento Police Department who threw Nandi Cain to the ground and beat him for jaywalking in Del Paso Heights. #Justice4NandiCain

Jeremy Gagnebin, Jared Cumber, Derek Ament and David Martin with Chico Police Department who murdered Desmond Phillips. #SayHisName #DesmondPhillips

Jeff Paul Wright, Ken Louis Becker, Gabriel Daniel Rodriguez with Sacramento County Sheriff who murdered Mikel McIntyre. #SayHisName #MikelMcIntyre

Jeffrey Todd Carr, Dustin Southward and Eric Toomey with Sacramento Police Department who murdered Dazion Flenaugh. #SayHisName #DazionFlenaugh

Chris Osborne, John Constable and Breanna Adams with Rocklin Police Department who murdered Lorenzo Cruz. #SayHisName #LorenzoCruz

Jordan Rinek, Alex Turcotte, Sgt. Dias, Jeremy Hatchell, Detective Dunning, Detective Kane Kissam, and officers Kohagen, Zazhitskiy, Frtiz and Greenhalgh with Citrus Heights Police Department who are all responsible for the brutalizing and burning of James Nelson. #Justice4JamesNelson

We still don’t have names of the cops with Sacramento Police Department who shot Armani Lee. #Justice4ArmaniLee

We still don’t have names of the cops with Sacramento Police Department who threw Zityrua Abraham on the ground when she was seven months pregnant. #Justice4ZityruaAbraham

We still don’t have names of the cops with Sacramento Police Department who assaulted Trish Hill, or the names of the deputies who abused her in the Sacramento County Jail. #Justice4PatriciaHill

And we still don’t have names of the deputies with Sacramento Sheriff who killed Ryan Ellis. #SayHisName #RyanEllis

And yet, not a single one of these officers has been convicted. NOT A SINGLE ONE HAS EVEN HAD CHARGES BROUGHT AGAINST THEM. The fight just to know these officers’ names has been ferocious. And we still don’t have names for everyone we are fighting for. A family and a community should not have to fight so hard just to know the names of killer cops who are supposed to work for US. A family and a community should not have to fight this hard for police oversight and accountability. A family and a community should not have to fight so hard to jail killer cops. #FTP

THIS is our fight. And we will keep fighting. If we don’t get no justice – they don’t get no peace!
